Welcome

St. Luke's Lutheran Church is a vibrant Christian community nestled in the Stoney Hill region of Prosperity, South Carolina. We welcome visitors of all walks of life and faith journeys.

St. Luke's was originally organized at this location in 1827. Over the last (almost) 200 years, we have stood together as siblings in Christ and our connections today are every bit as strong as they were in the beginning. Stop by and witness one of our services.  Pastor Schafer is well versed, and he adds a special down-home feel to all of his sermons. Young or old, everyone enjoys listening to him preach.

St. Luke's offers two ways for you to join us in worship: 1) In the Sanctuary and 2) Facebook Live.  Regular Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday School is offered for all ages and begins at 9:30 a.m.

We will save a seat for you!

Announcements

  • Golden Age/Homecoming Sunday

Make plans to attend Golden Age/Homecoming on Sunday, October 16th. We are excited that The Rev. Cassie McIntosh Overcash will be our speaker! Not only will she be present, but her husband, Rev. Ethan Overcash, also plans to be with her. Be present to welcome these friends and bring a covered dish or dishes, and we’ll celebrate the 195th birthday of Saint Luke’s. Enjoy fellowship following the meal.

Golden Age pictures will be taken in the sanctuary at 9:45 am prior to worship. Please be present and on time to be included in the 2022 Golden Age picture. We want to see everyone!

Attention seniors: If you have reached the age of 70 since last October and before October 19, 2022, please give your name to Doliene Bedenbaugh, Paulette Gobel, Janelle Frick, Jay Salter, Kevin Lonshore, or Catherine Boozer. We need to include you in the Golden Age list.

  • Mission Trip 2023

As the pastor of this church our mission trip to the Seafarers International house in New York City was one of the most powerful acts of ministry I have been blessed to participate in. When we came back in the summer of 2019, I was sure that Saint Luke’s would begin a bi-annual tradition of attending mission trips. Well the best laid plans often go awry. After a few false starts, we are back on track to take another mission trip in 2023. We plan to partner with a congregation in Memphis, TN.

I am excited about this opportunity for our congregation. Mission work is important for many reasons but for me the key reason is giving our congregation an opportunity to share faith with the wider world. I am looking forward to this experience and the time we can share together working in God’s Kingdom.

If you are interested in attending the trip please let me know. The trip is scheduled for June 24-30, and it will involve sleeping on a church floor. Even if you don’t go, there will be many ways that you can participate in the trip. We will need prayer, assistance with fundraising, and help telling our story when we return.

Thank you for your faithfulness to God’s mission. I look forward to seeing how our community grows from this intentional time in mission.

    God’s Peace, Pastor Jason Schafer

  • Tabs from drink cans

Please continue to save the can tabs for recycling. The proceeds from these tabs go to the Ronald McDonald House for general operating expenses. These houses are for family members to have a place to sleep, shower, and eat while their child is being hospitalized. They can be dropped off in the choir room or given to Ms. Harriett Kesler. Thank you.

  • Bulletin announcements

In an effort to provide the most accurate and effective communications in our bulletin, please have all bulletin announcements to the church office by Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
